As a composer, Toivo Kuula represended national romanticism in his early works, but later also took elements from French impressionistic music. Toivo Kuula was particularly significant as a vocal composer. In addition, he has composed violin and piano pieces, orchestral music, incidental music, chamber music and arrangements for various ensembles.

The winners of the Toivo Kuula singing competition 2021 together with the jury. The authoritative and well-known jury consisted of Karita Mattila, Juha Uusitalo, Kirsi Tiihonen and Sirkka Lamminen. The final was held in Alavus church.
